Frequently Asked Questions

How often should we clean our carpet?
The answer to this really depends on your unique situation. The average customer cleans once yearly, although we certainly have many who clean more or less often. There are a number of variables involved here; pets, amount of foot traffic, type of carpet, whether or not you wear shoes in the house, etc. Once a year is always a good idea due to allergens and other unseen particles in your carpet which can lead to an unhealthy home environment.
Generally, we say 6-8 hours for carpet and 4-6 hours for most rugs. You are almost always better leaving windows closed and controlling the environment inside by having your ac or heat running. This helps to pull the moisture out of the air. Also, ceiling or floor fans always help the drying times.
The ideal rule is to stay off of it as best you can while it is drying. However, we know this isn’t always possible, so the most important thing is to not wear any shoes on the carpet while drying. Any dirt on shoes (even if they appear clean) will adhere to the damp carpet, leading to stains. Also, you don’t want to place any wood or metal items back on the areas that have been cleaned until completely dry. Wood stains can bleed onto the damp carpet, and metal items can cause rust spots. If these items need to be placed back before dry, we will place plastic tabs or styrofoam blocks underneath to protect while drying.
Once again, this answer isn’t clear-cut. Generally speaking, we do not move furniture. Prior to our arrival, we ask that you move any items you want cleaned underneath. Of course, this isn’t always possible so we can assist on an as-needed basis with certain pieces. We never move large, heavy items such as beds, entertainment centers, dressers, etc. Normally, these items are just left in place and cleaned around since they aren’t getting dirty from normal foot traffic. Additionally, most beds are high enough where we can clean partially under both sides.
Yes, we offer a protectant for your rugs and carpet that will help prevent future dirt from getting ground in. We spray the protectant on after the carpet has been cleaned, then use a carpet rake to be sure it is worked into the carpet, which also grooms and fluffs up your carpet. When the dirt sits on top of the rug or carpet, it is easily vacuumed. Also, spills don’t soak down into the carpet as quickly, allowing time for removal. We recommend adding this service at least every other cleaning, as it is an affordable way to add life to your carpet.
We are so glad you asked, because this is such a common issue for so many people. First, it may go without saying, but you want to address any spills as quickly as possible. Blot up as much of the product as possible before moving on. Fold over paper towels and step on them to help maximize what you can remove. Next, keep a bottle of FOLEX spot remover on hand (can be found at Home Depot, Lowes or online). Spray liberally on the area, agitate gently if needed, and then blot again. More times than not, we think this will solve your problem.
